Save the Dates Veterans! – Gig Line #191

GIG LINE

By Marsha M. Brown

Hello all you wonderful people! Well…we’re off to a good start! Folks all around town seem optimistic, hopeful and a bit more energetic these first couple of weeks in 2016 and I say, “Hip, hip hooray!”

First things first!

Plans are again underway for a second annual celebration of dedicated V.F.W. members, their families and to acknowledge public support for veterans in Dare County. After such a successful event in 2015, Outer Banks V.F.W. Post 10950 will announce a special affair that’s in the works, so please keep abreast of updates through ‘GIG LINE’ so you won’t miss out! Last year the V.F.W. event was very well attended, great food & desserts were served and the raffle they held was a great success…but more on that later! If you’re currently a member, you know the schedule but…if you’re interested in becoming a member or transferring your membership locally to Post 10950, please make note:

For an updated list of businesses that wish to offer you a discount & honor your service to our country, please check out www.darenc.com and look for DEPARTMENTS & SERVICES; click T-Z; find VETERANS COUNCIL then to the left “Businesses that Accept ID Cards for Discounts”. I know I’ve mentioned this several times before but I can’t say it often enough to make sure you know of places you can save money & be acknowledged as a deserving veteran.

Folks, this is just a suggestion…but because all of the business owners who have signed up genuinely want you to receive your discount (as detailed on the site list I just noted), please understand they could be absent from the business site at the time of your visit. That being said, it might be a good idea to not only present your Dare County Veteran

I. D. Card but also have a copy of the PDF form of businesses available (that you can print off) when first receiving your dinner (meal) bill or invoice for a service. All of the businesses who signed up to honor you did just that to show their appreciation to you personally, however, an owner or authorized person who is familiar with the ‘CARD’ may not be present at the time you’re there doing business with them and the server might be recently hired or perhaps unacquainted with the process…please be patient and have your list with you just in case.

Over the past two weeks I’ve experienced frustrating cell phone problems. If you have tried to reach me with no response or follow up, I apologize…I value each and every one of you who have a word to share, a comment, a question or an email. At this time, I’m attempting to complete the repair to my old phone and merge all of my countless contacts (especially veterans) through a final attempt to repair it.

In the meantime, please call (252) 202-2058 or email me: editor@giglineheroes.com Be happy, be safe and be proud. I thank the good Lord for all of you every day. God bless you and until next time…stay tuned!
