Dare County Advisory Council – Gig Line #91

GIG LINE

By Marsha M. Brown

I have a bunch of things to tell you so let’s get right down to it!  But first…please get your calendar, day planner or IPhone, to make note of the following dates:

Per Jeffrey Pearson, Integrator of the Rural Health Initiative (R.H.I.) based at the VA Medical Center, Hampton, VA, his team will welcome veterans who are interested in determining potential VA health care eligibility on Monday, February 17th 10:30AM – 1:00 PM and will be held at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center, 300 Mustian St., Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948. It will also be a good opportunity that day for veterans who wish to inquire about scheduling an Agent Orange Screening as well. The team from Hampton asks veterans to bring their DD-214 and they recommend that veteran’s spouses accompany them on the visit if at all possible.

The R.H.I. group from Hampton held the first MOVE! WEIGHT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM on Monday, February 3rd and will also conduct meetings on March 3rd, 17th, and 31st; April 7th; May 5th and 19th; June 2nd, 16th and 30th all on Mondays from 10:30 – 12:00 noon also at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center. For further info on how the program works, you are welcome to contact Jeff Pearson direct at cell # (757) 344-9501 or you can call Mary Jernigan at (252) 475-5637.

Please note that a new schedule has been set for a successful repeat of where the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council members will issue Dare County Veteran I. D. Card(s) in conjunction with the R.H.I. group who will determine eligibility for VA health care benefits at the ACE Hardware locations as follows:

Nags Head ACE Hardware: Thursday, February 20th 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Kitty Hawk ACE Hardware: Wednesday, March 5th 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Avon ACE Hardware: Thursday, March 13th 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

It’s very important that all veterans who wish to obtain their Dare County (business discount) I. D. Card(s) bring their DD-214 showing HONORABLE discharge and proof of local address to these scheduled events.

Remember too that through March, the Council will be issuing I. D. Card(s) on Wednesday, March 12th; 19th and 26th at the Dare County Administrative Building from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. (Though we had previously planned March 5th, we will be at the alternate location of ACE Hardware in Kitty Hawk that day.

We currently have 21 businesses that veterans can enjoy the benefits of using their I. D. Card. Please don’t miss out on getting yours if you are a veteran. The CARD was established in your honor! Be acknowledged each time you present your CARD and save yourself some money at the same time! The veterans who have received and used their CARD are grateful and they enjoy being appreciated by the businesses that honor them. If you haven’t gotten yours yet…why?…what are you waiting for?…come and get it!
